The "Wardrobe" workshop comprises three experiments:

  1. Textile detective,

  2. Stone washing and

  3. Nylon.




   About the exhibit   

The visitor will study small pieces of cloth to find out if they are natural or artificial, follow the process of stone washing with enzymes and collect Nylon from a beaker. The visitor will use micro scale and standard chemical equipment and safety cabin. The scientific phenomena and concepts introduced here are: synthetic materials, enzymes, organic synthesis, dyes.

Materials:
  • samples of untreated and enzyme-treated textiles.

  • safety cabin.

  • beakers,
  • decanedioic dichloride,
  • tetrachloromethane,
  • diaminohexane,
  • distilled water.
